Acceptance

Acceptance often brings the change we seek. This was a common theme which came up in conversation over the last month and which caused me to reflect more deeply. It seems that it is only when we can truly come to terms with the way we are or the situation we are in, we are able to rid ourselves of the anxiety that prevents us from moving forward.

How many times do you hear the following stories:

  • Women who desperately want to conceive a child.  After years of anxiety and trials, they eventually come to terms with their situation and adopt a child.  A couple of years later, they conceive naturally.
  • People lose their jobs.  In desperation, they seek alternate employment and their anxiety increases as their confidence plummets.  Eventually, they start to reflect and accept their situation, acknowledging that they need to change their circumstances accordingly.  A month later they are offered the position they have always wanted.
  • A child is terminally ill.  The parent fights against it internally and externally.  Anxiety rises as relationships suffer.  Finally, she finds peace in her God’s will and then, miraculously, a cure is found.

It is as it is.
